The
Cairngorms Campaign is a membership organisation, welcoming individuals
and groups as members who support its aims of protection and appreciation
of the area.
The Cairngorms Campaign strives to prevent unsustainable,
damaging developments and argues for better management of the
Cairngorms area. It works with landowners, managers, local authorities,
government and agencies to this end.
Its aims are to:-
- stimulate public interest in the future
of the Cairngorms;
- promote public appreciation of and
care for the character, beauty and ecology of the Cairngorms
area; and
- encourage all concerned to foster or
participate in active conservation of the Cairngorms area.
The
Cairngorms Campaign was established in 1996 by its predecessor
body "Save the Cairngorms Campaign," a coalition of
voluntary conservation and outdoor recreation groups. This had
been set up as a result of the proposal to extend skiing at Cairngorm
into Lurcher's Gully. "Save the Cairngorms Campaign"
was founded by 15 founder member bodies. During its existence,
the Cairngorms Campaign has recruited over 1100 individuals, as
well as clubs and organisations, as paid up members supporting
its aims of conservation of the area and its appreciation.

The Campaign is funded entirely through membership
subscriptions and donations. The Campaign remains very much a
voluntary organisation and it is indebted to its team of volunteers
on its Management Group. The Campaign has a self-employed Campaign
Officer.

The Cairngorms Campaign is a member of Scottish
Environment LINK - voluntary organisations working together to
care for and improve Scotland's heritage for people and nature.
